2009 news letter #1

Beersheba Springs Historical Society
P.O. Box 117
Beersheba Springs, TN 37305

May 12, 2009

Dear Friends,

I am going to keep this letter brief and focus on upcoming events. Our first meeting of the season will be during Memorial Day weekend – Saturday, May 23 at 4 pm in Grace Chapel. Technically this is not the last Saturday of the month (our usual meeting time), but it is the weekend when many people come to the mountain.

I do hope you can come. It would be great to see you and I’d love to hear your views on a new question that has arisen several times this year. Should the Historical Society broaden its scope and serve the community more fully? We have done a few things in the past year in this direction such as supporting the first barn dance last July 4th, running the arts camp for children and adults, and helping to fund the Margaret Coppinger Easter Egg Hunt. Years ago we also made a significant contribution to the renovation of the school building so that it could become a community center.

Now there is a need to support both the Beersheba medical clinic that is being formed and the new archive building (Tracy City) of the Grundy County Historical Society which will house our own archival material. Our Historical Society could support those who are working so hard for positive change in the community. What do you think? Please come to the meeting and share your views or write to me if you can’t come. I’d love to know how you see the role of the Beersheba Historical Society in serving the community as a whole.

Meanwhile, it’s time to gather annual dues and donations to cover the costs of the Society. You’ll find a form enclosed to simplify the process. Do mail it in, if you have not yet done so, or better yet, come to the May meeting and bring it with you.

On the reverse side you’ll find the schedule for this summer’s meetings and other events. I look forward to getting back to Beersheba and seeing many of you this summer.

Be well,

Joan Almon
President
